Elder Gwendolyn Scott
Born in Ocala, Florida, Elder Scott moved to Philadelphia, PA at the age of four. It was there that her mother cultivated her and challenged her to fulfill her God-given purpose by taking her to Christian Tabernacle Church where Bishop RT Jones and Mother Jones became her mentors. It was Mother Jones who took her and many young women through a spiritual rite of passage and taught them the importance of being a virtuous woman and/or a Proverbs 31 woman. She taught that a young lady should be a “peach out of reach” and should substantiate herself as a woman who was to be obedient to God foremost and subject to leadership. It was definitely those teachings and her strong serious disposition about God that caused her to accept Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 12.
Elder Scott continued to grow in the things of God and eventually married Daryel Scott. They worked together in ministry at his home church, Mother Church of God in Christ (Rev. Ross B. Rainey, pastor) in Wilmington, DE from 1979-1987 and then moved to Fellowship Tabernacle (Rev. Robert M. Taylor, Sr., pastor) in Philadelphia, PA until her husband was called to pastor Scott’s Methodist Church in Camden, NJ. It was there that Elder Scott not only grew in her call as a Prayer Warrior but also followed the footsteps of past mentors like Mother Jones, by teaching other women the beauty of holiness. She coordinated the Women's Department and was a Devotional Leader. Elder Scott carried on her mission for the Lord, even after the passing of her husband. After going through a thorough discernment process, she felt God leading her to New Jerusalem House of God where she has served as the Directory of Prayer Ministries – praying for the sick and ushering in the Spirit of Worship through prayer and consecration.
God has given Elder Scott a love for the souls and a heart to represent HIM properly – displaying the love of Jesus. She feels that her call is to embrace and love the people of God. In essence, she loves the Lord and wants to be obedient to God's Word.
There is much more that can be said to describe this mighty vessel of the Lord – however her life can be summarized in one statement – her motto, which is,
“Thanks be unto God who giveth us the victory and causes us to triumph!!”
